What does smoking Adderall do to you?
We review the main side effects of smoking Adderall here. Then, we open it up for your questions about side effects, dangers, or consequences of smoking Adderall at the end. In fact, we try to respond to all questions with a personal and prompt reply.
Adderall as a stimulant
Adderall (a mix of amphetamine salts) is medically called a “stimulant” because of its effects on the central nervous system. Stimulants are usually consumed orally as pills or capsules that are swallowed. While a relatively uncommon mode of adminsitration, smoking Adderall is often associated with a pattern of binge use – sporadically consuming large doses of stimulants over a short period of time. However, heavy users have been known to snort, smoke, or inject themselves every few hours, continuing until they have depleted their drug supply or reached a point of delirium, psychosis, and physical exhaustion.
During heavy use, all other interests become secondary to recreating the initial euphoric rush. Why? Because smoking, snorting, or injecting stimulants produces a sudden sensation known as a “rush” or a “flash.”
What does smoking Adderall do to you?
When Adderall is smoked, the neurotransmitters dopamine and norepinephrine are released from nerve endings in the brain and their reuptake is inhibited. When nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord are activated by Adderall, the mental focus, the ability to stay awake, and the ability to concentrate is improved, which is helpful for those with hyperactivity disorders or narcolepsy.
Although the physiological experience of using amphetamines and cocaine is almost identical to that of abusing Adderall, the effects of amphetamines can last several hours whereas the effects of cocaine generally last less than one hour. When mixed with alcohol or other drugs, the effects of prescription amphetamines are enhanced.
Does smoking Adderall work or get you high?
Yes, smoking Adderall can get you high.
As with other stimulants, Adderall has a number of predictable effects. Adderall can:
- boosts alertness and confidence
- create feelings of exhilaration and euphoria
- decrease appetite
- reduce fatigue
Users are usually talkative, energetic, and have a sense of well-being. When smoked, it brings on an intense rush; this sensation is often what causes users to “chase” their high and use it more and more. This is part of what makes Adderall addictive.
Smoking Adderall side effects
Smoked amphetamine salts more commonly leads to dependence than does the oral form. Individuals who have used daily AS PRESCRIBED for 8 to 10 years tend to decrease or stop use because of Adderall adverse side effects such as:
- cardiovascular complications
- chronic chest pain
- irregular heart rate
- sleep disturbances
So imagine the onset of these symptoms with more intensity and/or quicker into the cycle of dependence. Side effects will vary by user, but can result in dangerous or serious consequences.
Smoking Adderall on tin foil
Adderall has been smoked in glass pipes or tin foil where the fumes are inhaled directly into the lungs. Smoking yields effects very similar to IV injection. Heating Adderall on foil vaporizes the active ingredient so that it can be inhaled, but very little of the medication ends up being released due to the high temperatures involved. So much more Adderall than normally taken will end up being released rather than inhaled.
Smoking Adderall with weed
Very little research has been conducted on the effects of smoking marijuana while taking Adderall. The side effects of Adderall can be similar to those produced by marijuana use however, and these include the following:
- abnormally fast heartbeat (tachycardia)
The danger of using marijuana while on Adderall is that it can intensify any or all of these side effects and make a person feel worse.
Is smoking Adderall bad for you?
Smoking Adderall is very bad for you. Another factor to consider is that whether someone is smoking, swallowing, injecting, or snorting Adderall, they’re likely to be careless about other aspects of their health. Although stimulant use has been associated with difficulty maintaining an erection, amphetamines seem to increase sex-drive. Feeling pumped and confident, some users engage in unsafe and/or rough sex, increasing their exposure to HIV, Hep C, and other STDs.
Can you smoke Adderall?
Your decision to smoke Adderall is a personal one. However, we remind you that this way of taking amphetamines is considered high risk abuse…and can result in a number of physical and psychological side effects that are potentially dangerous and/or irreversible.
